How do you pull the rug out from under destination marketing? Stop people from taking photos.

Stop! No Photos!

Via LA Times

Extraordinary news out of Hungary this week where the government is to start enforcing a civil code where photographers have to get permission from everyone in their shot – even those people who walked into it by mistake.

With 42% of content shared on Facebook travel related – and most of that in the form of photos – this decision is bound to impact on Hungary’s popularity as a destination, especially Budapest with it’s picturesque Cittadella. Getting a photo without anyone else in it is nigh on impossible at the best of the times.

And how long until the old gypsy ladies cotton on to the fact that there is more money to be made from getting in a tourists shot and blackmailing them, than trying to sell them bunches of lavender?
